blue sky takes part in Charity Dragon Boat Race
As part of our Community Programme, blue sky believes in making a positive contribution to communities and encouraging staff to become involved in fundraising and charitable activities. In support of this aim, blue sky entered a team into the 2010 Manchester Community Charity Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 1st August to raise money for the Helping Hands Trust.
The Helping Hands Trust is a charity which was established to help people who are suffering or in need as a result of financial hardship, sickness, disability or distress and to advance the education and achievements of those people.
Some of the people the charity has helped in the last 12 months include:
• Helping to establish the Shangri-La Children’s Home in Nepal for poor, orphaned and abandoned children. The home currently enables nine children to receive proper food, education, medical care and recreational activities and provides them with a secure and caring environment
• Donations to a Romanian orphanage fund and the Rainbow Family Trust
• Individual hardship fund donations for a number of children to support their educational advancement and welfare
• Individual hardship fund donations for a number of children to support their educational advancement and welfare
• Haiti earthquake fund
The blue sky team made a valiant effort in the race, despite being a little short of the full 16 team members for a couple of the heats! Overall the team finished 34th out of 36 teams and has so far raised £360 for the Helping Hands Trust.
